B 29s Make Historic Nonstop Flight From Japan to Washington
Four B 29 Superfortresses completed a nonstop 544 mile hop from Hokkaido Japan to Washington with two landings at National Airport. Lead ship commanded by Brig. Gen. Frank A. Armstrong reached first at 7 30 p m after 27 hours 20 minutes. One plane suffered tire failure and fire but was extinguished with no injuries.
