The Federated Improvement Club held its annual picnic at Stanybrook Park Niles Canyon with a parade led by local chief Louis Silva. Sunset district won best float with yellow badges, gate receipts surpassed prior records, and about 1500 attendees enjoyed lunch, contests, and dancing led by Harold Heiser.

KZM Plans Big Upgrades After Station Air Silence
KZM will be off air tonight for repairs and improvements as owner Leon Tenney expands broadcasting ahead of a larger operation. Casson contractor reports completion of a four cent per square foot Bitumulus Macadam paving on Russell Way Hayward in a restricted residence district. The work cost $35 to $40 per job and was approved by the Highway Commission and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. Casson plans more paving on county roads and sees this as a solution to paving costs with ready use and lower long term maintenance. A Saturday raid by officers Brandon Piper and Howell on a Mt Eden Chinese gambling den led to three men charged with operating a gambling resort. About 36 patrons were rounded up, 12 jailed, and Judge Harder held court on site. No liquor or opium sales were found.
