Rehearsals underway for the Diamond Jubilee Pageant to be staged Friday evening June 25 at the new Grammar School auditorium. It will present eight episodes Indians Padres Spanish Colonial Cowboys Forty niners World War and Today with over one hundred participants.
A Boy Scout troop has been formed in Decoto aligned with the local grammar school. Henry L. Hopkins of Hayward, south Alameda county field executive, heads the effort. Eight scouts are enrolled: James Beverage Walker Beverage Loum Duarte Albert Fallett Manuel Fostene Wilbert Goulart John Masters Joaquin Peixotte. Expected enrollment reaches twenty by June. Troop master is Peter L. Decoto, brother of Ezra Decoto. Walker is troop committee chair. Additional committee members will be chosen. This is the first Decoto troop and the second in southern Alameda county in two weeks.
The Jubilee Rodeo committee met at the Chamber of Commerce to push plans for the celebration. A queen contest will start soon and nearby groups are being invited to participate. Fred Weideman and Harry Rowell have the list of brands for branding and decor plans near completion. The management expects outstanding decorations and illumination for the event.
Andrew Perrick of Castro Valley pleaded guilty to possessing a considerable quantity of home made liquor at his 100 Stanton Avenue property. Justice Harder fined him 250 dollars and gave him a week to secure payment, noting the potential for harsher federal penalties. Perrick said he was influenced by others and believed the wrongdoing was common practice. Local district attorney investigators seized the still during a search of his premises.
Newly elected officers of the Hayward Lions Club will be formally installed Wednesday night May 26 at the Pergola dining room. Van Burke retiring president Vans Ogaar will become president. Wives will be guests, with entertainment, dancing, talks and banquet planned. Visitors from Eastbay clubs may attend.
NILES May 4 A Parent Teachers Association was organized at the Niles School last Friday. Officers elected include President Mrs J E Townsend Vice President Mrs Roland Bendel Secretary Mrs Clarence Martinstein Treasurer Mrs James Fallon Wistorian Mrs H B Rathbun Parliamentarian Mr E O Bristow Auditor Mrs Mae Walgon.
Douglas Cormack is chairman of the Queen s Inaugural ball to be held at the American Legion ballroom on May 24 in San Leandro. An augmented orchestra will perform a grand march led by the Cherry Festival Queen and Mayor Herbert L Landis. Her Majesty will be accompanied by ladies in waiting and other dignitaries during the May 24 25 events following coronation ceremonies on the Eliie plaza. Over 250 couples are expected to attend.
The Hayward Justice's court collected F631 in fines this past month from speeders and redless drivers. Of the total, F358 came from autos stopped by Hayward traffic officer F. E. Macabee, with the remainder from southern Alameda County State traffic squad arrests. An additional F79 was retained from civil fees.
Mrs J fi Strobridge of Hayward told of her Holy Land journey to 522 attendees at a Presbyterian church Dorcas Society event. She described sights from Vesuvius to Jerusalem, noted comfort and health gains, and praised the trip while noting poverty and beggars.
Captain Tolles resigns as head of Company F 159th Infantry Hayward National Guard unit and serves on a special detail inspecting high school cadet organizations for the Adjutant General. A successor will be named soon. Co F will parade in San Leandro and Stayford events and assist at Lone Tree cemetery on Memorial Day. Officers attend Camp of Instruction then maneuvers in Monterey County. George Bedford of Co F heads to Fort Winfield Scott for fifteen days with Sixth Coast Artillery Reserve Corps. later training at Fort Mer thyr. Bedford is an Hayward High School honor graduate and Citizen Military Training Camps alum.
