United Press summary reports radio Tokyo claiming Allied forces landed last night on Borneo in the Tarakan area with heavy bombardment and fierce combat against Japanese defenders. The broadcast says a full landing at an unspecified site was repulsed and notes allied air attacks and operations across the Philippines, Kyushu, Okinawa, Luzon, Mindanao, and surrounding regions during the weekend amidst ongoing battles in the Pacific theater.
The War Manpower Commission moved the San Francisco region from acute labor shortage group one to group two. San Jose shifted from group 11a to group three, reflecting eased war production schedules and cutbacks while other provisions in labor market classifications were announced.
National labor leaders at the World Labor Conference in Oakland will address a mass meeting at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium tomorrow at 8 p m on World Labor and World Peace. Virginia Caveys was named winner of the three Hayward high school students who spoke before Rotary members at the noon luncheon. Other speakers were Jean Ongman and Bob Walkup. Virginia will meet with the other winners at a final contest May 4 in the city hall auditorium. The topic is Hayward's Future and prizes will be awarded by Fred Cox. Invitations were extended for the final contest Tuesday. Other winners include Joyce Myers, Bob Hinckley and Bob Neilsen. Fifteen Rotarians from Hayward attended a reception in Oakland honoring Richard H. Wells, Rotary International president, with many Bay Area Rotarians and civic officials present.
Moscow marked May Day with a vast Red Army parade before 100,000 spectators and dignitaries including Japanese envoy Naotaka Sako. Marshal Stalin reviewed the procession, remaining motionless two hours as planes flew overhead. General Alexei Antonov led the ceremonial ride to the mausoleum at 10 o'clock for a high level address.

Local boards cap at 15 pounds per individual, down from 20. family maximum 120 pounds. Sandwich bars, soda fountains, and institutional users face 24 percent and broader reductions.
In San Francisco the United Nations Conference continued after a day of speeches following a vote that overturned Russia led efforts to block Argentina. The Big Four prepared commission and committee designs for executive and steering committees, intending to submit them to the plenary for afternoon approval.
Berlin battles rage as Soviet forces press through the city with Moscow radio claiming a May Day conquest near Berlin. Reports say the Reich's heart is under attack, with fighting in the Tiergarten and Unter den Linden as Hitler and his troops defend the capital.

London radio said Adolf Hitler was killed at a Berlin command post. Admiral Karl Doenitz would lead Germany as Fuehrer and commander in chief of the Wehrmacht. The broadcast urged continued resistance despite Nazi collapse as Russian, American, and British forces pressed on.
PARTS WA The American Nir Arimyeubust crosses the Austrian border at a new point north of the Dimabe today in a powerful drive toward Tink tp with Russians and cut the southern redoubt in turn. Third Arty tanks enrange into Austria near Ohor Kuppel, 14 miles east of the border fortress and 27 miles northwest and 83 miles from Real s west of Vienna. To the north, the British Second Army broke out of Elbe river bridgehead and maneuver within 22 miles of the Baltic port of Lurderk in a push to split the northern redoubt and threaten Denmark. The British were flanking Hamburg and about to cut the Hamburg Berlin superhighway, while German east-west lines in the Northern redoubt were attacked. A London dispatch said Germans already withdrawing toward Copenhagen. other reports said they might relinquish control to King Christian.
In northern Italy General Mars W. Clark reports Allied armies broadening their push toward junctions with French American and Jugoslav units. Fifth Army troops seize Riva Tarbole and Nago north of Lake Garda as Seventh Army nears the Brenner Pass from Austria. French forces push toward Turin as operations stretch from the Brenner to the western front.
Swedes deny new Himmler proposals amid wartime diplomacy. Bernadotte, the Swedish envoy, reportedly discussed German surrender terms with Navi leaders, though a government statement says he did not relay details to Stockholm. Churchill signaled imminent major developments and a Commons briefing may follow.
Hayward Rodeo will be held Sunday at Rowell ranch in Dublin canyon. Roundup officials will donate a portion of receipts to buy athletic equipment for advisers, with over $1,000 already contributed by rodeo bosses. The Dublin Rodeo will add more later in the season. Larry Rowell expects a strong field of participants as riders compete in tough livestock.
