Court rules Hayward school district must pay paving bill
Superior Court Judge Quinn orders the Hayward Grammar School district to pay a $5,000 paving assessment for Booster Park adjacent to district property. The City of Hayward argued the park is not exempt from taxes since it benefits the public, while the district claimed park use for athletic events constitutes school use. Judge Quinn sided with the city’s view that athletic use does not exempt the property. A lien will be placed on the property to recover the cost, shifting the burden to district taxpayers both within and outside city limits.
