The group will meet Monday evening in the Memorial building to map the program and entertainment features.

A Friday Sunset school meeting of the Hayward Acres Improvement Club discussed taking part in the official Hayward airport opening parade. The group will feature a transportation evolution from high wheels to modern machines with riders in period costumes. Sunset Recreation joins, with a motion picture program planned for April 12.

Alameda county warns unincorporated area residents to secure 1946 fire permits now and clear grass around chicken houses and dwellings to prevent later fires. A petition asks the California Attorney General to address a dangerous traffic intersection on the highway between San Lorenzo and Hayward. Circulator Joseph B. Painter Jr. says repeated petitions to public works and the Board of Supervisors failed to spur action despite over 60 accidents in 15 years and one fatality last year. The plan urges San Lorenzo creek bulkheads at Hampton road and Matjoj road to curb erosion, acquisition of adjoining land for a protective bulkhead, and installation of traffic signals at the intersection.
San Lorenzo firefighters battled an early morning blaze that destroyed a 1936 Ford coupe owned by Frank Taylor of 16125 Via Arriba. The vehicle, left on the street, appeared to have burned all night and damaged the upholstery and interior. The origin of the fire was not immediately determined.
U S officials urged last minute efforts to prevent strikes that would blackout Virginia and disrupt coal and copper production. Secretary Schwellenbach met operators after a private talk with John L Lewis. Lewis ordered 400000 soft coal miners not to report Monday. In Richmond IBEW members said they would not work Monday amid court martial risks. Governor Tuck ordered 3500 TRE militia to be ready to work. Negotiators saw a chance to avert the strike affecting electricity in Virginia and southeastern North Carolina.
Betty Clark, 22, daughter of Mr and Mrs John P Clark of 1480 171st avenue, died Friday at home after an illness. Private funeral rites will be held Monday at Garden Chapel Pratt-Filer mortuary with Rev E A Groves of Centerville Episcopal Church officiating. She had lived in the community 20 years and attended Hayward high school. Inurnment will be at Mountain View crematory.
Three of the largest Longshoremen locals support delaying a coastwise dockworkers strike set for Monday. They call for a government fact finding body to study a wage contract dispute before action. Local leaders say the move aims to avoid disruption while negotiations continue.
Washington reports OPA may raise new car prices further after completing adjustments tied to recent wage hikes in the auto industry. Increases range 31 to 51 dollars for several makes including Plymouth Dodge DeSoto Chrysler Ford Mercury Lincoln Nash and a 49 dollar rise for the 1948 four door Chevrolet sedan. Dealers previously absorbed some costs while further boosts may be passed to buyers dollar for dollar.
Rex McGowan aged 34 of 1024 Leve ling boulevard pleaded not guilty in San Leandro Justice court to driving the car that struck and killed Frank Monroe aged 47 on East 14th Street near 159th Avenue on March 15. A preliminary hearing was set for 30 a.m. Tuesday before Judge A W Bruner after a moulding fragment linked to McGowan’s car was found at the scene.
Public health officials on the Pacific coast urged civilians from the Mexican border to Canada to renew smallpox vaccinations to curb spread after five Seattle deaths. They cautioned the outbreak is not epidemic except in Seattle where the Navy provides vaccine and staff for mass inoculations. Navy data cited a ship in Shanghai quarantine in San Francisco, and one smallpox case, Steward's Mate First Class James Williams, 19, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, was treated in Oakland. A second group aboard the transport Maring Devil is to be quarantined in San Francisco, with no known cases aboard.

Muga Frank of 905 Main Street obtained a permit for a 10,000 warehouse to be built at Rod Smalley Avenue near Melvin Court. The one story structure will be designed by architect George Simonds of 40 Main Street. Also, RR Abvatt received a permit for a new 12,000 plumbing shop at BY A Street, with builder George Asmussen of 1058 Grove Way and inspection by billing inspector Pal R. Wateel. The shop will include a salesroom and warehouse.
