Francis Gordon Bolton a 44 year old native of Ireland living in California for about 25 years died after being struck by a one and a half ton truck driven by Phillip A. Thomas 40 of Redding at the Niles Canyon road and Niles highway intersection. Bolton reportedly stepped into the roadway signaling for a ride and was hit when Thomas swerved unable to avoid him. Bolton was thrown 60 feet and died from head and internal injuries. Coroner Thomas J. took the body. Bolton had been working on the Western Pacific number one extra gang for about five months. No relatives have been notified.
