Great Exhibit of Rabbit Furs to Open April 6

California and Oregon Lead Cauliflower Shipments East
California and Oregon shipped more cauliflower to the east and middle west than ever before, led by California with about 450 carloads from Alameda county. The season lasted ten weeks with roughly 160 cars daily from the two states. Overproduction along the Pacific coast pushed shipments high. In Alameda county production neared end though small daily shipments to the east continue, and remaining carloads will taper off.

Fire Destroys Home in San Leandro Early Morning
A fire at 2 o'clock this morning destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Santos at 786 Castro Street San Leandro. Loss exceeds $1,000 with some insurance. The blaze likely started from a fire left in the store when the family went to bed. Mrs. Santos awakened by her 18 month old Marie and fled with the child and younger sibling while her husband fought the flames outside near the chimney. Fire department arrived as the house burned to the ground.

Arm Around Waist Driver Arrested After Highway Race
Richard Francis, 21, of San Lorenzo, was arrested by state Traffic Officer Norman Yadpais in Hayward for driving at about fifty miles per hour with one arm around a companion and edging another motorist into a race.
