Supervisor Ralph Richmond of Niles reports surveyors are at work on the Niles Canyon route between Pleasanton and Surol. He says steps are underway to straighten the highway at Surol between the Western Pacific and Southern Pacific tracks, eliminating two railroad crossings.
In San Francisco on March 13 the mystery of the ghost raps disturbing the board of supervisors is solved. Janitor Louis Santos is revealed as the culprit softly tapping dust from his room’s baseboard while sweeping, exposing the nuisance as a dust-based prank rather than spirits. Bert Terrill aided the investigation and exposed the helper’s routine.
BERKELEY March 14 CG M Gates a painting contractor watched nine workers finish the rear walls of the Berkshire apartments under the Campanille. He boasted of a nifty job then learns the work is on the wrong house the El Granada across the street. He figures the morning’s work cost him about 250 dollars in paint and time.
