Navy Seaman William Coady Killed in Pacific War
A telegram from a Navy department confirms that William George Coady, 18, of Hayward and Oakland, was killed in action in the Pacific on June 6 aboard a cruiser. Enlisting in 1943, he served aboard a cruiser and earned an individual citation for bravery under fire. He had a 80 day home leave last February and attended Hayward High School. Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. A L Coady and two sisters.

Seattle reports the USS Bunker Hill survived a May 11 Japanese air attack off Okinawa led by Mitscher’s forces.
