A wartime letter from H. Shultis of the Fifth Naval Coast Guard post expresses gratitude to Hayward residents for hospitality during leave. He recalls fond memories of Hayward, the USO canteen, candlelight events, and Christmas seasons, and fondly hopes to visit again after the war ends.
The report claims Japanese forces on Okinawa used no quarter and killed many U S. soldiers. It notes missing Americans and examines captured enemy positions and hospitals.
