Miss Crossetti Crowned Queen of Fiesta Rodeo Victory
Miss Minnie Crossetti was elected Queen of the Fiesta Rodeo by a large final vote count on Saturday evening. Eleanor Crogan rose to second, Milas Morea Dobbel moved to third, and Katheryn Westover finished fourth as the four contestants completed the ballots. A dinner with officials followed and preparations for the coronation on Tuesday were under way.

Fire Boys Respond To Call Run Aground In Collision
Eddie Mendonca of Vieux Bros and Marcha do of Peterson Bros were in a car crash at B and A Main streets as fire equipment rushed to a reported blaze. The dented fire wagon continued to the scene though no fire existed, while a Hayward woman faced a domestic dispute and called police as the crowd surged. The men escaped with minor bruises. the vehicle was damaged beyond repair.

The Elizer case, charged with assault on his wife with a deadly weapon and a second count, is set for preliminary hearing on July 1. Ralph Elizer returned home intoxicated on May 6 and attacked his wife Helen Bitzer, 21, injuring her with a knife. she was hospitalized and later sent home. The couple has four children. Elizer remains in Alameda county hospital pending outcome.

Valle Vista Boy Perishes in Hayloft Barn Fire
Norman Meek seven, Valle Vista, burned to death when a hay tunnel in a barn burnt during the blaze Saturday afternoon. Leland Jund, seven, was rescued from the tunnel but Norman died in the flames. The barn burned to the ground, neighbors saved outbuildings, and the funeral was held next day at the Meek home attended by schoolmates and local residents.

The Hayward Grammar School hall packed for the 8th grade graduation. 54 graduates 51 boys and 4% girls earned diplomas in a 100 percent class. Principal Kammerer praised teachers and parents for support and backsliding students receiving extra help. Robert M Field delivered the keynote address.
