City council studies annexation to boost finances for vital improvements and payroll growth. Local leaders urge thorough study, with residents proposing street sign restoration and clearer house numbers to aid newcomers and improve Hayward’s image.
Supervisor George Jansson told Federated Improvement Club members plans to address the San Lorenzo hog ranch nuisance were discussed, with no abatement guaranteed due to difficulty proving the issue. A committee will investigate and suggest corrective measures while other local improvements and a Victory Ball fundraiser were outlined for the area.
Peter Sorensen a native of Denmark and long time pioneer of this district died in San Rafael at Alderaly. He had lived in the city since his wife Emma died. Funeral services are planned for Monday by Sorensen Brothers with interment at Lone Free Emeters. Funding and toll decisions were discussed for the Bay Bridge project in 1958, as noted by Public Works official C.H. Heald.
Two new subdivision tracts will create 319 homes in the north Hayward area. Beckett and Pedevight plan 204 homes on Bog 1 4th Street and Hexperiair Boulevard near Club Alabam, with three homes daily after 45 days. McIntyre bought 2244 acres near Bancroft and Midway to host 115 homes selling around $8000 in three months.

Deterra Motors plans a grand opening tomorrow for its new $50,000 building at 101 Castro Street featuring eight Hudson models from 1948. The one story, reinforced concrete showroom includes a 60 by 90 foot shop, dust proof paint room, and an enclosed used car area. Joseph B. Deterra and manager W P McCracken, both veterans, lead the operation with local residents among new hires. Willis F. Lynn oversaw construction with lighting by Spott Hies tle of Oakland.
Local bread supply faces collapse as Hayward Emergency Food Committee chair En Friedughs warns only two weeks of wheat flour remain. Oakland meeting attendees report no wheat grower or miller solution, threatening closures of bakeries in July and August due to wheat famine and government policy requiring 50 percent of wheat to be turned over to public warehouses within 15 days.
Secretary Byrnes arrives for the renewed foreign ministers conference with America Britain and Russia. He aims to secure approval of a 25 year German disarmament treaty and a compromise with Austria. Byrnes spoke only to reporters in his hotel suite noting no clear shift in Soviet stance but possible progress at the new session.
William Custer aged 85 of 4092 Hayward Boulevard was taken to Hayward Hospital with minor injuries after his car struck a bus on Castro Street in front of the Hayward Plunge. He was treated for facial lacerations and released. Bus driver Lawrence Parades, 40, of 145 B 1St Street, Oakland, was involved. Dallas Lewis, 34, San Francisco, later cited for failure to yield right of way after a separate collision on Highway 50 with a truck driven by Lew W. Marsh, 36, Lomita, California.
Mrs. Ruby Lupe a Califormia divorcee admitted abandoning a four year old in Fresno shortly after June 2. She was arrested in Newark while police hunted for her in Hayward. A bus driver reported a woman matching her description claimed she was bound for Hayward. Lupe remained jailed in Fresno and faced a probation report before Judge Dana Conway on June 24.
Hayward Acres Improvement Club members will hear a Hayward city council representative discuss annexation possibilities and sewer issues from the Oro Loma Sanitary District. The meeting, set for 6 PM in the school auditorium, is announced by president John Bullek. Seventy four California attorneys, including two women, were admitted to the bar by the state supreme court.
Belgrade court hears Mikhailovitch admit collaboration with Chetniks Germans and Italians against Partisans. He confirms reading a commander’s letter outlining united action and says American airmen were aided by his forces with planes landing in Chetnik area. He testifies amid treason and war crimes charges.
Mrs Ila R Nelson, 54, was found dead at her Linke Chall road Castro Valley residence by husband Arvid J Nelson when he returned home from work. She died en route to Maynard hospital where deputies pronounced her dead. She had been in failing health with a heart ailment. Survived by husband two children Mary Ellen and Glen M Nelson five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services at Jorenson Brothers pending relatives in the east.

Ground breaking for a new parochial school of All Saints parish is set within 60 days. The $200000 Spanish Colonial building, adjacent to the church and rectory, will house eight classrooms a kindergarten library and auditorium for 500 students. Architect Vincent Bucklay designed the stucco structure with terra cotta tile roof serving parish activities at night.
In San Francisco chairman Ger maine Buleke of the maritime unity committee warned of a possible coast wide shipping work stoppage to begin at midnight unless Washington reaches a settlement. In Washington government officials shipowners and CIO unions met for a final conference amid last minute snags centering on Harry Bridges and the union’s position.

Survived by nineamdchildren and three great grandchildren. Native of Puerto Rico. Funeral under Sorensen Brothers chapel at 929 Sycamore Ave 030 am Saturday June 15 Mass All Saints Church 9 am. Interment Holy Sapulchre cemetery. Rosary Friday evening for late relative.
