Grammar School students will stage a day long display on June 9 featuring gowns from bygone eras and outfits made by pupils. A 2 39 pm program includes band selections, glee club numbers, an educational play The Boy Who Hated Grammar and a gown exhibition with students guiding guests through the school.
Miss Enid Rosenberg elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Rosenberg of Hayward will wed Paul Clifford Perry of Toney on Saturday night June 26. The ceremony at First Presbyterian Church will be officiated by Rev Josiah Daniel with bridesmaids Litzte Hauschildt Mildred Jensen and Mary Betty Rosenberg. A reception follows at the Rosenberg home and the couple will reside in Torney where the bride elect’s fiancé is in business.
Dr F L Browning Hayward Health Officer says the annual League of California municipalities convention will be held in Yosemite Valley from August 16 to 20. Many papers of interest to smaller cities will be read and discussed to help towns meet common problems.
Hayward police department will rigorously enforce boulevard stop rules. Marshal Schilling orders over 500 metal discs to mark traffic lines at business district street corners replacing painted lines.
Big two night pageant for the Diamond Jubilee Rodeo celebration runs June 23 and 24 at Hayward theatre. Over 175 local youths in nine episodes portray California history through dances drills and songs under directors Karen Kelly Catherine Borneman and others. The program features Bugier Edwin Hollingshead Herald Billy Hamilton and a cast of performers with detailed roles across Indian Spanish and Colonial epochs.
Frank G. Fassbind of San Lorenzo reported a thirteen pound honey bee swarm on his property marking the largest on record. Swarms of six or seven pounds were once considered unusually large, and officials in Hayward were informed yesterday. Fassbind weighed the swarm before disbanding it.
Hayward Rotary heard Vicar Battershifi address members at a noon meeting. He urged smiling fellowship, noting life should be happy rather than soul sorrow. President Horace Robinson spoke on a baseball challenge for the 29 30 Club and 60 Plus crowd, with Lions and Rotary mixing teams.
Claire Manon daughter of Mr and Mrs C L Manon wed Arnold Silacci a Salinas rancher at the bride's Hayward home reception guests included Muriel Manen Walter Manon and Mr and Mrs L Manon. The couple planned a ten day honeymoon and will reside in Salinas near Mrs Silacci's ranch.
A distressed wife reports she shocked her husband and caused his temper to flare. She says she has seen his hair turn whitened in reaction to her actions and emotional strain.
A Sunday evening concert at the Presbyterian church delighted a nearly full house with a staged program of solo duets and choral pieces. Local talents led by A S Hunt offered memorable performances including Mrs Lorengen and Mr Frenth in duet and Miss Hunt in I'm a Pilgrim.
Funeral services for Daniel Ali son, 70, of Kelly Hill will be held at Sorenson Bros. funeral parlors Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Josiah Daniel will officiate. Deceased will be cremated in Oakland. Mr. Allison died at his San Francisco home, 204 MacDonald Ave, after a long illness Saturday evening. He had been a resident of Harvard for about 15 years. His passing is mourned by his wife, Cordelia, and a sister.
Harold Markle hosted a Saturday bridge gathering at a colonial Piedmont home with prizes for top finishers Mrs. Howard Marks first Elaine Macabee second and Lucille Thorup consolation. Guests included Muriel Manon Isla Rathert Thadea Harder Gladys Ruus Lizette Hauschildt Jane Testover Miriam Prowse Wilda Oswill Elizabeth Donahue and others from Oakland Newman and surrounding areas.
A hard fought Sunday clash at Booster hall park saw the Madsen Varieties fall 4 to 1 to Elmhurst Realty Co. The game featured a scoreless start until the sixth when Elmhurst pulled ahead then added a run in the ninth. Roosevelt High pitcher Jimmy Vierra starred for the Varieties, while Elmhurst veteran Fat West earned the win after a prior string of losses against Hayward.
Manuel Edward Andrade of Hayward died after several months illness. Funeral Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church with requiem at 8 o clock. He was 28, born in Hayward, husband of Marie Andrade and son of Mr and Mrs John Andrade. He belonged to Hayward I.D.E.S and A.P.O.M. Councils.

EB W Prossen of Berkeley battled a robber on Lewellyn Road near San Lorenzo after engine trouble. Prossen, 54, struck the assailant, received facial lacerations from a clubbed weapon, and took the robber’s hat which was turned over to Hayward police. His companion refused to name herself.
Marshal Fred P. Schilling, acting building inspector, said signs will be installed along A, B, Castro and Jackson streets to cover their entire length. The city council approved the ordinance authorizing the installation and ordered signs from an eastern manufacturer. Similar installations may follow on other city streets.
