California Traffic Reorg Aims for Unified State Force
United Press reports California plans a complete reorganization of traffic policing under the division of motor vehicles after Governor Richardson signs AB 1274. Nine district inspectors will oversee county squads with uniformed officers, cross‑communications between division offices, and closer cooperation with boards of supervisors on appointments. The initial focus includes reducing headlight violations and expanding state officer presence to Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Cruz, and other counties.
