A three week old baby and his mother died in a Pleasanton train auto collision on Sunol Pleasonton road near the south city limits. Victor Fullem and Margaret Fullem drove from Komondarski village to San Jose when their car was struck by a Southern Pacific troop train at 2 20 pm. The mother was killed instantly and the infant died shortly after at a Pleasanton physician's office. The father sustained head and other injuries and was treated at Camp Parks. Bodies were removed to Graham mortuary.
Two men were released on $600 bail after an arrest in a Bayshore highway tavern raid on Suga Joe's. Deputies said they recovered $760, gambling equipment, and the tavern manager Joe Brandon and gamekeeper Neil Schwartz were questioned. They face Friday arraignment on California gambling laws charges. No patrons were arrested.
Sheriffs officers hunted two Mexican nationals tied to a Centerville robbery and assault of Kenneth W. Kiffer on Ban e road near Main Street. Kiffer said he was stopped for a drink when attacked near a railroad. His left ear was bitten off, he was stripped, and his wallet with $17 and gas stamps was taken. He described his attackers as speaking little English.

Deputies search for a black sedan with a badly crumpled left fender after it smashed into St Marys of the Palms sewing room on Saturday afternoon causing about 100 dollars in damage. Witnesses describe the vehicle as a compact car fleeing the scene.
Loren Critzer district governor elect of Lions International will install Hayward Lions officers at a July 6 installation dinner and dance at Club Alabaman. Retiring district governor James Land will present awards as Hayward enters its 22nd year. Roger Anderson outgoing president leads the ceremony with Bowmen Bowman as president elect and Plemmons organizing the event. The first project by new officers is the August 19 Hayward community picnic at Memorial Park.
A Saturday night crash on Niles Canyon road injured two people. Mrs Azalea Morgan of 868 Jumma Street San Leandro suffered a broken arm while Conception Pads sustained a slashed wrist. A car driven by Morgan’s husband collided with a machine driven by Augustin Guercira of Pleasanton with Paceaco as a passenger. Morgan was cited by highway patrolmen for driving while intoxicated.
Seventeen Hayward Boy Scouts depart July 7 for Camp Dimond in the High Sierras with Scout master Leo Pearce and acting assistant Glen Langanstein. They plan hiking swimming and fishing with focus on troop advancement and a special program for activities.

MADERA Calif OK Mrs Betty Loy Davis 19 will be arraigned in justice court Monday on a charge of murdering her newborn son. Arrested in Yuba City after the infant was found Thursday near Camp Yestreany outside Madera City limits she claimed she thought the child was born dead and gave birth unattended. She said she told officers she felt pretty bad and called her mother in Yuba City.
