An altercation near Shanghai's French concession drew Japanese and French soldiers into a tense clash as Chinese residents intervened. Fifteen Japanese troops joined the confrontation, weapons drawn, before Russian and French officers restored order and officials mediated a cautious handshake.

Mrs. Adeline Amaral a longtime resident since 1872 died Friday at home on Hank Street aged about 93. Widow of Manuel Amaral she left sons and daughters including Adeline Flores and the late Mary Garcia with grandchildren and a great grandson. Funeral services set for Monday at Sorensen Brothers Mortuary then All Saints Church and St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Deputy sheriffs report a spate of depredations by youths and vandals. A Mount Aden gasoline theft involved 25 gallons stolen from a tank while a nearby telephone toll station had its coin box ripped and wires torn. A 15-year-old boy was caught stealing keys at Memorial Park and forced to return them. four locks were damaged. Bricks and a hatchery toilet were stolen on Niles Road. Russell School reports windows broken in recent evenings by teen vandals.
