British officials announce renewed willingness to cooperate with allies against Japanese forces in the Pacific. London stresses unity and practical support, signaling broader coordination and material aid to combat the enemy threat.
Prime Minister Churchill pledged renewed all out British effort with the United States against Japan after Germany is defeated. He told President Roosevelt the British would throw in everything they have, even as the battle for Guadalcanal rages with heavy Allied casualties. The meeting at Alexandria, with Stalin present, offered no light on Russia's future plans toward Japan and did not mention the Japan question at Yalta.
Six men charged with responsibility for the circus fire which claimed lives last July were sent to prison or jail terms by Superior Court in Hartford Connecticut. Judge William J Shea presided. The Ringling Brothers Barnum Bailey company pleaded nolo contendere to 10 counts of manslaughter. The corporation was fined $10. Vice President James A Haley received one to five years on each count, to run concurrently. Others sentenced include General Manager George W Smith two to seven years concurrent, Chief Canvassman Leonard S Aylesworth two to seven years concurrent, Rolling Stock Superintendent David W Blanchfield six months per count, Chief Electrician Edward R Vorsteeg one year per count concurrent, William Coley 2nd assistant foreman one year per count concurrent. Judge Shea noted the deaths were unintentional.
At a crowded Community Club meeting in San Lorenzo plans were advanced to petition East Bay Municipal Utility District to incorporate San Lorenzo Village into the water district. I H Attix criticized Greenwood for delaying tactics while outlining annexation work and noting lack of verifiable action. Sheriff N P Gleason described 24 hour radio-equipped patrols and proximity to the sheriff's sub-station as local policing details.
Waltington WHI-Trans printing director J Monroe Johnson announced official travel clearance for professional baseball this summer after talks with Ford Frick and Will Harridge. Four points limit travel: games only in home city, expositions allowed where military provides transport, preseason near home, and minimal travel personnel. The Hayward Area Chamber of Commerce begins a membership drive with about a thousand invitations mailed to business and professionals urging joiners to support the newly formed organization. Dues are 10 dollars annually plus a 15 dollar minimum service fund for firms, with higher gifts encouraged to fund stronger advertising and prosperity for the Hayward area. Roger W. WASHINGTON. The Senate Military Affairs committee added a farm labor deferment provision to the new manpower bill. It forbids local draft boards from considering armed forces manpower needs when judging farm worker essentiality. The amendment aims to base deferments solely on producing essential crops and availability of replacements. The panel judged its substitute broader than the House work or fight bill, covering all manpower.
Lorraine Prates a 26 year old from 1206 A Street was sentenced to 30 days in county jail by Judge Haralor Te after a tip from P C Whiteneck of the Navy Shore Patrol. Police warned by the Shore Patrol that she was soliciting sailors and escorted to a rooming house with Camp Parks sailors in attendance. The sentence aims to warn other vagrants, with Police Chief George Forth and the judge commenting on the case.
A German prisoner within the 94th Division in Germany expressed disdain for Hitler's fate. He said it was a shame Hitler was not killed in the July 20 plot. He argued that if Hitler were dead the generals would take over and end the war, noting he was among over 1,000 prisoners captured in the last 18 hours.

Mrs. Allamae Gumm told deputies her husband Jim Gumm 46 was intoxicated when he came to the 29408 Happyland avenue home seeking divorce terms. He allegedly choked and threatened her after she read the terms, neighbors alerted the sheriff, and he was jailed on intoxication charges. He had prior disturbance arrest. she is filing for divorce from him.
Marines stormed an air field moving past the southern tip as Admiral Nin it announces two divisions suffer heavy casualties. The two divisions press forward yard by yard against heavy fire, with Marine losses mounting beyond earlier campaigns. Fifth Amphibious corps drives near the field while May, Don Clifton By Cates reports a frontal assault, as American forces close on the base.
Domingo Barao, who sparked a free for all at a county creamery Saturday night, was subdued by workers and later jailed for six months after a judge ruled probation terms violated. He faces possible additional charges of attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon. Barao, 55, threatened his wife and caused a chaotic scene requiring hospital treatment for injuries to bystanders.
