Ex Hayward Lad Saves Woman From Propeller
Private Robert Lawford a 17 year old Marine corps recruit stationed at Oakland naval air station risked his life to pull Mrs. John Roberts of Oakland from a whirling propeller yesterday afternoon. He was struck by the blades suffering stitches and head wounds. Mrs. Marvin Lasley an Oakland resident who knew Lawford witnessed the act. Mrs. Roberts a Red Cross nurse at the station was hurled to the ground but survived with shock and minor injuries.
