Fire Damages New Barn and Hay After Lone Calf In Road
A barn at 1230 Crow Canyon road owned by W A Van Horn suffered a $1200 blaze that destroyed 31 tons of hay and caused $2000 in frame damage. Spontaneous hay combustion is blamed. The fire, reported by Van Horn at 4:20 AM, drew Alameda county fire patrol and Fairview crews who saved the structure and moved hay to safety. A black heifer from the herd wandered onto the road and was struck by a car driven by William Graves, who said he did not see the animal.
