Mike Hirsch, Ocean Park promoter, fined 2500 by the State Boxing Commission after a guilty finding on ticket handling. He was also ordered to donate 1250 to the boxers and wrestlers benefit fund and 1250 to Service Sports, Inc., before a 1945 boxing and wrestling license could be issued.
Washington report: OPA officials forecast drastic tightening of the civilian shoe ration with buyers limited to one pair every eight months. Slowware reports Sixth War Loan drive in Hayward has $1.2 million in E bonds sold toward a quota of 1 4 285 000. The current tally shows 428 000 of 479 000 quota purchased. The drive ends today.
The Securities and Exchange Commission approved separate sales of California electric properties by Public Service Co to California Oregon Power Co and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. In dissolution steps California will sell Pacific Gas and Electric stock to Providence Mutual Life Insurance Co. Remaining assets will go to People’s Light and Power Co. Final steps include selling Modoc and Lake counties electric properties and water properties at Willits and Cloverdale to Pacific Gas.

Willim K Groesbeck 45 executive at Genheim Cadri fruit processors was jailed on embezzlement and forgeries charges after a five mile chase. District Attorney Edmund Brown said the alleged embezzlement could total up to 500000 with forged checks and related forgeries over 15 years netting at least 383000. Sheriff William Emig led the arrest and Groesbeck surrendered after police pursued him through McLaughlin Avenue and surrounding roads.
The Tennyson Fire Dept plans a New Year's Eve party in the Tennyson school auditorium Sunday night. The program will feature motion pictures, dancing, and refreshments, with members expected to attend and enjoy the evening together in a community celebration.
Two three pound male wildcats climbed the 35,000 volt transmission line cross arm in Lone Pine and electrocuted themselves after an arc caused a power cut for Owens Valley. Electricians say the arcing wires sparked a brush fire and residents recall a similar incident years ago when a wildcat fell on the lines.
Hollywood report says Bobby Yeager of Los Angeles met Nick Moran of Mexico City to a split decision at Legion Stadium. Moran had previously knocked Yeager out in the prior bout, with the six rounds producing a closely contested result.
Kaiser shipyards in Richmond California shift from new ship construction to repair and conversion work to meet wartime needs. Henry J. Kaiser says preparations for this transition will start immediately and gradually complete over five months as new construction declines. Existing contracts call for 96 more ships to be built and delivered.
Allied columns move toward Mandalay from north central Burma with Fourth Corps at Kunhalu on the Myitkyina Mandalay line and a second column reaching Tawgyin 34 miles northwest of Yeu, while Allied planes aid the push and strike at port facilities near Akyab. Chinese units advance west through Yunnan toward the Burma border, capturing Taulongchai and Yuka near Mengmao.
Antone Besolt, 76, of 536 Laurel Ave, was treated for minor cuts and bruises at Tayward hospital after being struck by a car at the corner of Western Blvd and Laurel Ave at 7 45 A M. Gelo Paya, 56, of 258 Alden River, the driver, said Besolt waited on the right side of Western Blvd when hit from behind as headlights blinded by an approaching car. Paya was cited for no operator's license.
Burlington officials report the Liars Club awarded a New Year prize to a woman who signed as Capt. Mope Harrin after convincing judges with a fabricated recipe for air mailing dehydrated blondes to overseas bays. Captain Hirvin, a farm teacher from Conway Arkansas, claimed quartermaster corps duties in Europe and a GI ration project.
The March of Dimes drive begins January 24 and runs through January 3. Funds aim to combat infantile paralysis with emphasis on activities around President Roosevelt’s birthday on January 30. A Lane of Alameda County is listed as a leader for the effort.

Local Seabees Pettersen and Curl have arrived at Camp Parks after 80 days home on leave. Both are from Berkeley area families and served in France, Scotland, and Normandy during D day operations with the Hawks battalion. Pettersen is married to Patricia Carl and is son of Mr and Mrs N B Pettersen. he previously worked for Pacific Bridge Construction in Alameda. Curl, husband of Patricia Carl, previously worked for M Byl Co of Berkeley before enlisting.
