Olsen a 56 year old Hayward city employee and public plaza caretaker died at Hayward General Hospital from injuries after being struck by a car on Castro Street Christmas night. He had served in the street department about two years and is survived by a brother, tat Niles, with no other relatives known. The crash occurred near the spot where a street car conductor, Harry Grimes, was injured about a month earlier. The driver was Joe Cubna of Hayward and a coroner’s inquest will determine fault.
A nationwide advertising scam allegedly defrauded buyers through orange honey and poultry offers. Promoters, including D. W. Nichols, moved funds via mail orders to multiple firms across states. About nine thousand dollars on deposit and assets seized. warrants issued by Georgia authorities.
