The four room Sawyer House of the Curtis Homestead tract in Hayward Highlands owned by H. D. Sawer burned Tuesday night. The fire destroyed furniture and a grain store. cause unknown. Neighbors reported it. no local fire department available. The house was insured, but grain and furniture losses were heavy. Hurricane winds kept worse damage at bay.

In Hayward's business district bright displays create festive scenes at night. The Xmas tree at C and Castro streets, set up by the city and lit by Hugo Frank, draws cheers from the Lions group. Other highlights include Ed Willis' Auto Cigar store window, Bill Burchill's Home Guarantee Building Loan sign, Hayward Electric, and the Fennemans' illuminated pergola with indoor lamp displays. Miss Julia Hutchison from UC visits her aunt Miss May Hutchison downtown.
