Fire Blazes In Russell City Home
A two story residence at old Washington street Russell City suffered a devastating blaze last night gutting the upper floor. Fire crews from Fairview county patrol Tennyson Hayward Acres and Russell City battled the flames from 7 25 pm until 10 30 pm. An explosion rocked the house as firefighters fought the fire which investigators say may have originated from an overheating oven. Fire watch kept until midnight. The Sencio family reported insurance coverage on the home had expired 60 days ago.

Burglars entered the rear window of Lockerby Motor Company at 370 Castro Street and ransacked the offices damaging a safe, cash register, and filing cabinets. They attempted to pry open the safe with a welding torch, then opened a bank cabinet and sling cabinet, moving and smashing the cash register but found no money. 18 Year Old Struck With Monkey Wrench
Trving D Knight, 15, of 5250 Parkside Avenue, was treated at Fairment hospital after being struck on the head with a monkey wrench wielded by a 14 year old Hayward boy. Knight required 12 stitches for a scalp gash and said the attack followed a fight over a pencil taken from his 13 year old brother Ludwig. The wrench wielder was detained at a high school dance and held by juvenile authorities on assault with a deadly weapon charges.
