Sailors and War Time Housing Amid Shared Rooms
The piece paints a vivid, candid portrait of young women living communally in large city housing during wartime. It portrays cooperative daily life, shared kitchens and baths, and the social dynamics as women juggle chores, roles, and humor while awaiting loved ones away at sea. It notes a strong sense of mutual aid, discipline, and the social challenges of intimate proximity.
