George Oakes Plans New Office Building East of Journal
George H. Oakes, publisher of The Journal, will start a two story reinforced concrete office block beside the Journal. The 76 foot front on 4 street will house five ground floor stores and 22 second floor offices. Jim Willison, Chamber of Commerce president, will supervise the construction with E. W. Whitman as architect. Completion is expected within three months at a cost near 30000 financed from Salt Lake City. The land was part of the old Hayward Hotel site, sold to Oakes by Milton Plato of Milton's Candy Store. Percy O’Brien may sell or build on the property east of the building as A street rises nearby.
