The Hayward Union High School Board voted to purchase about three years of ground adjoining the north side of the campus. If the offer falls through, the superintendent was authorized to condemn the property. Expansion aims to ease crowding as enrollment rises from about 1200 to 3000, with a projected $76,000 cost. Furniture for a new science building will arrive from Michigan August 20, and painting of the new cafeteria is approved at $428. Buses will be leased to Hunt Pousen under the prior terms.

Slaying of Nazi Prisoners Probed
At Camp Carson Colorado a military inquiry opened into the shooting of three German prisoners of war by Pvt Harold W Garland a Purple Heart recipient from Columbus Indiana. Garland claimed the prisoners threatened to rush him while he guarded about 15 prisoners at a potato patch on Hulbert Richiel Jr farm near Ovid. The victims were Corporal Nelmut Peifferling Corporal Jinfon Nauner and Private Hugo Quans. Around 100 German POWs were working in the area at the time.
