Sacramento April 2. California is described as the world’s food supplier by G H Hecke state director of agriculture. He argues California feeds New York and many other markets with fruits vegetables and citrus, citing vast carloads of grapes oranges apricots and more shipped to New York last year.
Ben Rogers a 14 year old pupil at Sequoit high school on the peninsula paid a 410 fine in Judge Harders court this morning in lieu of a 90 day suspension of his driving license after arrest for abeeding. He argued losing the license would bar him from acting as stage manager for school vaudeville productions and driving to school each day. The judge granted the fine and warned him not to repeat the offense.

Tony Silva pleads guilty to a battery charge arising from an incident with Joaquin Limpo. Silva says Limpo assaulted him after a bicycle wheel was bumped. The counter charge was heard in Judge Jacob Harder Jr. Court with Silva free on $100 bail. no decision, rehearing planned.
Louis Sterling, 36, of Russell City, pleads not guilty to the theft of a $150 gasoline engine mounted on a frame used in Hayward outrail sewer work. Deputies found the missing apparatus in his home. he says it was sold to him by John Varelas who cannot be located. The case goes to jury trial on Monday morning, April 16.
The Golden West Broadcasting Company unveils KZM in Hayward on March 31, broadcasting 50 watt tests from the Palmig building. Officials, dignitaries, and messages from across California and the Canal Zone celebrate the station, crediting local Chambers of Commerce and civic groups for backing the project.
The Hayward station E2ZM aired its second program at 8:15 this morning under local management. Community members including N R Moore and Mrs Carol B Kelly supported the event with petitions, musical selections, and messages to veterans hospitals.

M Bauer retires from the school board after seven years.

Mrs Mery Anlon MacDonald, wife of Allan MacDonald of A Street, Hayward, died Sunday April 1 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 30 pm from Pratt Mortuary with Reverend George Saywell of the Methodist church officiating. Interment will follow at One Tree Cemetery.
