Riot at Hotel Baltimore Follows Crap Game Bust

Kansas City police broke up craps in the Hotel Baltimore lobby as ex servicemen gathered for a convention. A two hour riot ensued between visitors and officers with hundreds of shots fired. Lobby damage occurred but casualties were not reported.

Hayti Building and Loan Association forms steady growth

The Board of Directors of the Hayti Building and Loan Association held its first regular monthly meeting. Reports showed stock progress with 370 shares subscriptions toward a 500 share authorization. The group plans to secure about $25,000 in stock by month end and offers loans to members with stock as security.

Water works rush to completion in Hayti project

Progress on the waterworks shows about 8000 feet laid with two sections remaining to finish the street end. The Caruthersville Plumbing and Heating Co and contractor I H Warden with engineer W E Galligan push the job as weather allows. Wells foundations and plant equipment are in place and operation expected soon. Local residents are urged to act quickly for house section work to save money while crews are on site. Morgan of Hayti Ice and Cold Storage reports Kentucky coal arrangements via freight rate adjustments to serve many local customers. John Atkinson of Cape Girardeau visited Hayti Monday.

Hayts School Notes Examinations Near End of First Quarter

The last two days of this week are devoted to examinations with 24 this week closing the first quarter. Emma Reinhard fills in for absent K V Propst, who will return today. County superintendent Chas G Ross visited Friday and announced a teachers meeting at Carutherville December 1 2. State superintendent Mr Baker and Southeast Missouri Teachers College president Mr Serena will speak. Grammar school basketball travels to Steele this afternoon to face a strong Steele team and aims to bring home the bacon.

First Christian Church Halloween Party Highlights

A juvenile entertainment by the First Christian Church ladies aid unfolded at the High School Auditorium featuring Billy Netherys Orchestra Topsy Turvy Drill Twin Tot Orchestra and a Dramatization. Carnival booths offered candy pumpkin pies hot coffee and doughnuts plus attractions like Hades and a snake charmer. The event concluded with a ring gift and a patronage note from the community.
