Man Hangs Himself Near Gideon A Fatal Self Destruction
Wes Jordon a farmer living northeast of Gideon was found Saturday night hanging from a leather strap. Mrs Jordon awoke to find his death and cut him down, then fled for help as a fire started in the house. Neighbors arrived to find him on the bed by the burning building. An inquest ruled death by his own hand, noting the lamp likely caused the fire.

The nine county district of eastern Missouri sees basketball as the leading sport with most high schools fielding teams. Strong squads form in Jackson, Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, Olmo, Fornfelt, Chaffee, Morley, Sikeston, Charleston, Campbell, Malden, Kennett, Caruthersville, Hayti, Portageville, Dexter, Bloomfield and others. The season ends with the Teachers College tournament in March. teams must win half their games to be eligible, and no team has yet won the tourney twice. Last year’s runners-up were Poplar Bluff, Deslodge and Festus behind Jackson.
