The Phelps County Bar Association met in this city last Wednesday with Judge J. S. Gossom presiding. The group discussed candidates for circuit court judge in the Twenty Eighth Judicial District and urged selecting the best person for the role despite modest pay. A consensus formed around Hon. C. B. Faris of Carthersonville as the preferred candidate.

Hunters Celebrate Largest Buck In Local Area

Pioneer Woman Mrs Popham Dead at 70 in Hayti
Mrs Ann Julia Popham wife of Albert D Popham died after a short illness at her Hayti home on Christmas Eve. A Pemiscot county pioneer and last of the Oates family born September 26 1839 in Sampson County NC she was 70 years 2 months 28 days old. Funeral at the Baptist church Christmas Day with burial in Oates cemetery.

Funeral of grandmother burned to death in Portageville
Ernest Caldwell of the Morgan butcher shop was called to Portageville for the funeral of his grandmother who died when her clothes caught fire from a stove. Her husband, 80, and a grandchild were present but could not save her. This week the paper paid Hayti rent installments and clerks comment on city hall office rent donations.
