Chamber of Commerce Holds Interesting Session

The Hayti Chamber of Commerce met in regular session at Odd Fellows Hall. Forty to fifty attendees heard Chair Brannon outline benefits for members and the town. Four new members joined, bringing total to eighty four as the group eyes a 500 member goal and discusses a north south highway project and a forthcoming Women’s Civic League formation. A road committee was named to pursue improvements, and a Monday adjourned meeting will organize the Women’s Civic League.

Little Betty Reinhard Hosts Birthday Party

Little Betty Reinhard celebrated her ninth birthday last Thursday February 10 entertaining a group of friends. Guests included Mildred Helm Thelma Brown Pansy Teaster Ida Mae Stout Geraldine Alsop Gladys Gwin Herbert Milsap Robert Baker William Murphy. The children expressed great enjoyment of the evening. Mrs Condit hosted a Monday night card party with twelve ladies and a luncheon.

County Court Actions Include Road District Appointments

County court actions for the week ending February 12 1921 rescind December 1920 order on Drainage District No 9 and accept final reports on Drainage District No 11. The Mayor and Council of Caruthersville met with the court and appointed B O Bennett to Little Prairie Special Road District for three years, and L H Brannon to Hayti district. A list of road overseers is named. appointment of A W Thompson for Drainage District No 4 is rescinded.

Pascola News: Bond Set in Government Money Case and Second Jess Ray Trial

Tom Hughlett, former postmaster, posted a 2600 bond after three weeks in county jail and will be at liberty until April 11 for a federal hearing in Cape Girardeau. Appointment Change in Cooter Township Justice Office

Large still found near Micola hidden in briars

Deputies Gaines and Sheriff Robertson discovered a large eighty gallon still in operation on a farm near Micola. The plant included a brick boiler, a furnace, wood drying on top, and a hidden hut covered with dirt and briars. Sixteen whiskey barrels held mash, thirteen full, with an estimated total mash of about 1000 gallons and two gallons of whiskey on hand. The equipment appeared home made and was confiscated and moved to Caruthersville.
