The Missouri capitol near Hayti was destroyed by a Sunday night fire sparked by a lightning strike on the pinnacle. The blaze gutted the building including the house of representatives and senate chamber, with losses estimated at 2.5 million. State officials and convicts aided in rescue efforts, but most records were lost. Some key documents survived in the governor's office and other departments. Hayti Juniors Edge Caruthersville In Tight Game
Last Saturday the Hayti Juniors beat Caruthersville 30 to 27 after two 10 minute halves. The first two halves tied at 25 each with Wiley Dunklin starring. Sheriff J A Franklin traveled from Caruthersville to sell mules for Cole Powell, fetching handsome prices.
