The first Labor Day of the new century drew thousands to the Capitol Grounds and Executive bandstand for speeches and a park sports program. Evening crowds packed the SeRail shed for dancing as festivities continued into the night.
Labor units reviewed by Gov Dole Gen Breckenridge and territorial officers as city unions display fealty to their holiday. Parade formed at noon on Miller Street then moved through the Executive Building grounds for the reviewing party to view the marchers in best shape.
A long procession through Honolulu celebrated labor with marching bands, U S soldiers, and eclectic floats. Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, and Ironworks presented vivid displays as crowds along Fort and King streets cheered the colorful pageant.

He praises discipline during Labor Day observances and emphasizes national representation.
A large gathering at the United Chinese Society rooms heard James W. Girvin advocate easing Chinese labor limits and petitioning Congress for 6,000 Chinese annual admissions while opposing Geary law reenactment. The talk critiques Hawaii annexation and enforcement of exclusion policies, recounting deportation fears and petitions to President McKinley.
