Water Power at Lahaina Pioneer Mill Cuts Steam Costs
A new water powered plant at Pioneer Mill Company Lahaina uses 4 million gallons daily with a 566 foot head to generate 885 HP and 6600 volt electricity. It powers a 250 HP motor and pumps, saving about 3400 dollars monthly by replacing steam. Total plant cost was around 40000 dollars with plans to extend power to a second mill unit at extra 10000 dollars.

Adam Petrie Dies After Long Honolulu Career
Adam Petrie died yesterday morning at his Honolulu residence at 74. A former contractor and renowned master carpenter, he built many mill buildings for rural plantations after arriving from Canada in 1878. He leaves a widow, two sons Leslie and T H Petrie, a daughter Mrs Alice Borden, and a sister. Funeral is at Harmony Hall at 2:39 pm with pallbearers named. Public offices closed Saturday for Memorial Day.
