Queensland government grants Prof Maxwell of Honolulu a five year salary of 20000 per year, totaling 100000, for sugar research. The appointment, made without Parliamentary authority, is defended by Minister Chataway though questioned by Rockhampton’s Daily Record. Byrnes helped arrange the link, noting Maxwell’s valuable sugar work for Honolulu growers.
