Old Kilauea Hou Wreck Found on Hilo Beach

In Hilo sands the bones of the steamship Kilauea Hou are found near the wreck. The cyclone struck while anchored at Hith Bay causing the vessel to wash ashore and fill with water and sand. Built in 1878, later owned by Wilder's Steamship Co, the ship served the Kahului to Honolulu route before meeting its end. The vessel will be sold for the benefit of interested parties.

Large Honolulu mail run sends fifty pouches to the Coast

Fifty pouches were needed at the Honolulu post office to carry the New Year's edition of the Advertiser to the Coast. It was among the largest mails of its kind from Honolulu. Christmas mail totaled ninety-three bags. The heavy freight required several wagons to Gaelic. No pardons were issued yesterday from Oshu prison.

Dividend Declared by First National Bank and Trust Firms

The First National Bank and the First American Trust and Savings Company directors met Monday and declared a dividend at $1.25 per share for three months, five percent annual, drawn from recent net earnings since starting under current names. Previously excess profits were moved to the surplus fund. the predecessor bank’s profits are not included in the dividend.
