A white man dies as new plague center opens in town. Serum used again during board session and a Kewalo visit highlighted the latest incidents and responses.
J H Hartmann an American night watchman at the Pantheon stables is declared a case of plague after gland swelling and fever signs. He is transferred to the pest hospital and given twenty cubic centimeters of anti plague serum. Other patients include Koalii the Hawaiian and Yamaoka the Japanese worker found near Pantheon, with authorities tracing Asiatic employees. The investigation follows the closure of the Pantheon saloon and stables Saturday and the president’s routine checks.
Hartmann, a San Francisco horseman, vaccinates under doctor oversight amid plague fears. A sick Japanese worker from Pantheon stables is identified, prompting a census and quarantine maneuvers.President Wood and officials push drastic cleanup, assess steamer use for garbage disposal, and survey Kewalo district living conditions showing decay and health risks.

Miss Berce Landers of this city and Mr A Mackintosh of Honolulu have ended their engagement. Landers says she asked for disclosure, requests not to involve Miss Palmer, and notes the breakup by letter while Mackintosh remains in Honolulu. Friends were told only that the engagement was broken.
The Lahaina women organized to aid fire victims on Honolua by gathering and distributing boxes of Hood items. They found Chinese and native residents keen to help the needy, and several boxes were sent to assist those who lost everything.
