News of the death of W. W. Dimond, Hawaiian businessman and general, recounts his lineage from General Dimond of Hawaii and ties to the Dimond family of San Francisco. It notes his Civil War service in the Union Army, roles in the California National Guard, two marriages, two children, and death in New York in 1596. Funeral and cremation plans are mentioned along with possible disposition of the Dimond business and real estate holdings at Koko Head.
A senior health official was ousted after the department refused his resignation amid allegations of a promotion syndicate. The charges include salary frauds and turf swindling tied to railway mail contracts. George W. Beavers, once acting First Assistant Postmaster General, allegedly managed fraud and later resigned under pressure.
