A lengthy list records 197 Ohio County men who reached majority since June 5, 1917 and registered for the draft. U Boat Attacks Hit Ships Off New Jersey Coast
Reports from New York and naval officials say German submarines sank nine vessels along the North Atlantic coast since May 26, including the New York and Porto Rico liner and the Carolina near Sandy Hook. Survivors describe coordinated attacks and bombs set on targets as U boats patrolled off New Jersey, Virginia Capes, and North Carolina.
Masonic Lecture Praised by Louisville Speaker
Jefferson Adams superintendent of the Kentucky Widows and Orphans Home spoke at the courthouse Monday. He noted 372 residents with only one in hospital, a boy with a sprained ankle. He cited seamstresses among girls and boys who make shoes and lodge furniture. Adams attended lodge that evening to help with degree work. Local members and the public welcome another visit.

Charles Warren Fairbanks Dies at Indianapolis Home
Charles Warren Fairbanks former vice president and U S senator from Indiana died at his Indianapolis home at 6 60 tonight from interstitial nephritis. He was born May 11 1852 in Unionville Center Ohio and later served as a key Republican leader and adviser during the Spanish American War. The report notes his long political career his Senate tenure from 1897 to 1905 and his presidential campaigns including a 1908 VP bid and 1916 nomination efforts.

Docket of County Court June Term Sets Delays Amid Farm Season
In county court a large June term docket faced delays due to tobacco season and farming duties. Despite absence of many witnesses and lawyers, substantial business was conducted. Homer Martin charged with obstructing the public highway was sent forward to June 15. Jim Taylor faced three cases for selling Aquar, failed to answer summons, and the county attorney moved to forfeit bond. The court reserved opinion for argument of attorneys.

Hungry to Fight Jesse Coppage Plucky Soldier Return

U- boats prowling Atlantic coast feared by officials
German U boats appeared off the New Jersey coast Sunday and began a campaign to disrupt American shipping. Officials say the number of submarines will not exceed three, possibly two, and only one large steamer has been sunk so far. Washington sees little threat as destroyers and aircraft scour the coast and transports sail under convoy to France. Sixteen lives have been lost to U-boat activity or a sea storm.

Six Ohio County men rejected from Camp Taylor
Of the 119 men sent from Ohio county to Camp Taylor last week six were returned for physical disability. Among those returned were Archie Maddox Earl Westerfield William A. Vought and Charlie E B Cox. The homes of the other two have not been reported. This is the first instance of local board selections rejected as disqualified for service. Archie Maddox married the day before departure and was returned to his wife.
