No Suffrage Amendment Defeated in House Vote

Washington January 12 The House of Representatives defeated Mondell resolution to submit a constitutional amendment granting women the vote by 204 to 174. The record second defeat in a year ends a long day of speeches with suffragists and anti suffragists clashing in the galleries. Leaders vow continued effort toward woman suffrage nationwide.

Wallace H Riley Seeks Republican Circuit Clerk Nomination

Card from Bartford Kentucky dated January 14 1915 states Wallace H Riley has been urged by leading county Republicans to seek the Ohio County Circuit Court Clerk nomination with a decision expected by early March. The note denies rumors of withdrawal and invites scrutiny of his character and past while asking supporters to await the proper time before any commitment. In Indianapolis eighty men out of 114 arrested pleaded guilty before Judge A. B. Anderson to participating in an alleged conspiracy to corrupt the November 3, 1914, Terre Haute election. Sentences not yet set. demurrers to the indictment to be argued January 20.
