Spectacular Cloverport Oil Plant Fire Destroys Standard Oil
Fire of unknown origin at 6:20 this morning destroyed the Standard Oil Company plant in Cloverport Kentucky. About 17,000 gallons of oil and gasoline burned with flames reaching 250 feet high. Two large tanks and several outbuildings were lost, as were office records and small structures. Superintendent W H Kerr, who arrived February 1, fought the blaze with little effect. Local and Louisville Southern Railway shop crews aided, preventing spread beyond the plant. Only livestock structures and fencing survived. Estimated loss around 5000 dollars.
