In Raleigh the Utilities Commission cites poor management and weak plant performance as reasons for modest rate increases. VePCO faced an 8.2 million annual penalty cost, while CP and L’s pending 16.4 percent request may be less affected. The commission will study CP and L management of nuclear plants, with final conclusions possible by late 1982.
A BA-6B Prowler from Whidbey Island crashed in a rural Virginia Beach field. Lt. James H. Mallory Jr., Lt. Cmdr. Jack Fisher, and Lt. Alfred J. Dupont died. The aircraft, out of Norfolk and bound for the Kennedy, exploded on impact, scattering debris and smoke while ground crews searched the area.
STANARDSVILLE AP Greene County Circuit Court jury convicts Ida C. Jackson of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Isabelle Dade Washington, a resident of the old age home she operated. Jury recommends 12 months in jail and a $1000 fine after nearly six hours of deliberation. Washington died after severe weight loss blamed on lack of food, defense says intestinal disease.
Correction from The News-Record states Mrs J P Mundy of Harrisonburg has been nominated for state president of the National League of American Pen Women. Previous report misstated the title.
In Nashville Tennessee a motorcycle officer ticketed Dr Ron Cherry and Dr Melissa Cherry for kissing at a stoplight as they waited. The Cherrys, Vanderbilt Hospital residents, contest the $15 misdemeanor fine saying the act was private and harmless. The officer says the light turned green and the couple did not stop kissing. The court date is December 10.
