Harrisonburg Faces Higher Taxes For School Expansion
City Manager Kurt Hodgen presented a preliminary financial memo to the Harrisonburg City Council outlining potential effects of a $50 million to $55 million addition to Harrisonburg High School. If started now, bond debt could raise the property tax rate to 86 cents per $100 by fiscal 2018 and to as high as 99 cents by 2019, lifting the annual bill on a $250,000 home from 1950 to about 2475 dollars, not accounting for other budget pressures.
