Richmond Oct 25 Henry G Shirley chairman of the Virginia State Highway Commission was unanimously nominated for president of the American Road Builders Association at a New York nominating committee meeting. Election will be at the Chicago convention Jan 11 to 15. Shirley has long led Americas highway program and built a reputation in road construction.
A Marsquerade party hosted by Miss Helen Selger at her parents home in Palmyra Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening honored friends Miss Polly McCoy and Miss Lena Meyerhoffer of Harrisonburg Virginia. Attendees danced played games and enjoyed refreshments with Victrola music after toe dancing by Miss Mary Deppen of Hershey.
J. J. Hawse of Rockingham Milling Company recovers from tonsil surgery at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and is able to be out again. Others, including R. L. Wenger of Hartisonburg and Raleigh Maury of McGaheysville, spent the weekend in Charlottesville for the Virginia Maryland football game. Theodore Whitsel of Pittsburgh visits J W S Whitsel in Harrisonburg. Leonard and Medford Shaver of Moores Store were town visitors. shoppers in Harrisonburg include Jack Bradford, Mrs J C Bear, W C Koontz, Mrs T L Piper and son, H J Schultz, Miss Margaret Vance, Miss Ada Combs, Miss Ruth Vaughn, John G Miller, Mrs J D Shaver and family, Mrs Merley Landes and son Victor, and Miss Ruby Shaver.
Rev I Conder of McGaheysville was given a surprise party at his home on Oct 17 celebrating his ninety three birthday. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Jesse Bowers Mr and Mrs Minnick and Mr and Mrs Ed Michael. Mrs Laura Bowers contributed a large cake with 93 candles. Gifts came from Mrs Whitesel of Harrisonburg and Mrs Etta Shumaker of Pleasant Valley along with many cards and greetings.
