U S durable goods orders fell in September with nondefense capital goods down 9.5 percent and household items off 4.7 percent while transportation orders dropped 7 percent. Analysts warn the economy may continue weakening into October as GNP also shows contraction. GM reported a third quarter loss of 468 million, with Ward's Automotive citing 133,485 planned car builds this week. Also notes a scheduling change: William Pifer cancels a Shenandoah County visit, with trips rescheduled for Nov 25.
