A two-alarm blaze in a Harrisonburg apartment building Thursday night caused severe damage and displaced seven residents. Fire officials say the fire began in the kitchen and spread to the attic. Capt. Arthur Miller of the Harrisonburg Fire Department notes the roof will need replacement and emphasizes the incident could have been much worse.
The Edinburg Heritage Foundation, owner of the Edinburg Mill built in 1848 and later converted to a restaurant in 1979, seeks a buyer after five ownership changes and a 1998 closure. The foundation invites proposals to operate the historic eatery in the mill building.

A 28 year old Boston University graduate Yongda Huang Harris was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport wearing a bulletproof vest. Bags contained knives body bags a smoke grenade and other weapons. He also had computer files detailing kidnapping and killing methods and a video titled Schoolgirls in Cement. Prosecutors say he showed strong interest in sexual violence against girls. He faces one count of transporting hazardous materials and potential five year sentence. He was held without bond as a flight risk.
