Landfill theft case eyed for potential prison term
The Shenandoah County Circuit Court will hear Chrisman’s case Wednesday morning amid a restitution dispute. If judges rule against him, he could face up to 23 years in prison previously suspended for 1995 circuit court convictions. He has repaid most of 150000 due by 2000, with 14056.48 outstanding, and 250000 due by 2001. Mitchell called the missed payment a probation violation. Chrisman stole about 643900 from the county 1987 to 1994 using Diesel Specialties to bill for unrendered services and funneled funds to personal accounts. He pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud and one of money laundering, receiving three years in federal prison and 400000 restitution. His home was auctioned to meet restitution, and 54300 of possessions were seized. He was later indicted in Shenandoah County for grand larceny over 35000 worth of machinery and parts, receiving 12 months in jail with a suspended term, contingent on restitution.
