Bodies of Langley aircrew recovered after James River crash
Four men from Langley Field died when their bombing plane crashed in the James River near Rushmere. Three bodies were landed at Fort Eustis and turned over to Langley officials. a fourth body floated away and was not recovered. Victims: Second Lieutenants Lewis Horvath and H W MacKellan. New Bomber Plane Crashes Over James River
Captain A W Fitch says the crash was accidental and avoids blaming a cause. The craft was a new ahead bomber with the motor not in the fuselage when recovered. The tail rotted, fuselage split, and a wing was removed to clear the James River bridge during evacuation. The plane, delivered two months ago to Langley Field, will be sent there on the Mary Anne. A Langley Field board of inquiry will investigate the disaster.
