In San Francisco on June 23 a volunteer platform team to draft lines on prohibition enforcement worked as leaders including national chair Cummings agreed the issue would dominate the convention. Delegates showed diverse views from states rights to modifying the Volstead Act easing the one half of one per cent ban.

Honoriah McDaniel of New Stanton, Greene County, was instantly killed when lightning struck as he rode with two colored men and three horses toward a barn on the Cleve Jarrels farm. Mrs McDaniel and the horses died, the two men were stunned but not seriously hurt. A relief fund is being started for the family which includes eight children.
